- Tribute to a true gentleman |

Sarah &
Queimado
5th Place
Purebred Lusitano English Ridden Class |
Our thoughts are with Mr Chris Baylis and Sarah Metcalfe
after the recent tragic loss of Queimado. He was a stunning
and talented horse and a privilege to ride.
Queimado was a joy to behold on his Royal Windsor debut
this year and gained many admirers. Sarah rode him beautifully
earning 5th in the English Ridden class, and he was placed
2nd in the Parade class after performing a stunning display
with Marcia. His is a very sad loss and he will be sorely
missed but not forgotten.

 |
 |
| Sophie & Ubrique
, 1st place Parade Class |
Congratulations to Sophie and Ubrique who achieved a stunning
success winning the Parade class at Herts County Show. This
was only on the second outing for this new partnership and
it was the first time they had competed together in a Parade
class. Sophie looked fabulous and rode Ubrique beautifully
to clinch the title in this hotly contested competition.
Ubrique recently imported to the UK from Portugal was foot
perfect.
Sophie is hoping to compete Ubrique at Working Equitation
this year. Watch this space for further updates as to how
this wonderfully matched pair do throughout the year. We
are sure that this is the first of many more successes!

Second Place, Parade Class |
Marcia and her clients had a fantastic day at Royal Windsor
Horse Show, celebrating major wins and placings on the final
Sunday. Marcia successfully defended the Ridden English
title, taking the honours for the 3rd year running, riding
Soneto (owned by Alan Eustace and bred by Jose Filipe Casaca
Guerreiro Dos Santos). Marcia's clients also fared expectionally
well. Sarah Metcalfe performed brilliantly and was placed
5th on Queimado. Sophie McKenzie-Howard competeing for the
first time out on her new horse Ubrique who were both immpeccable.
This was a notable achievement as this was also Sophie's
first visit to Royal Windsor. Olivia Pile also performed
beautifully on Obelisco. There were about 21 competitors
in total so this was a very hotly contested class.
After the success of the English class there was much anticipation
as to the outcome of the Parade class. This was very well
attended again and Marcia was placed second on Queimado,
a last minute change for Marcia thanks to Sarah Metcalfe
and owner Mr Chris Baylis.
The parade class was a veritable feast of dancing Luistano's
much enjoyed by the crowds at Windsor. Patrick Kempe and
Tetua rounded off the occaision lapping the ring with a
Garrocha pole adorned with English and Portuguese flags
to honour Englands oldest Alliance dating back from the
13th century.
News travelled to the continent very quickly, click
here to see the reports of Windsor from Portugal. Well
done to all the horses and riders and many congratulations
to Justine Jevon who took the honours in the parade class
riding Trigueiros, bred by Pen Llyn Lusitano Stud.
Marcia and Sophie can next be seen competing at Herts County
Saturday 29th May when Marcia will be defending the championship
with Soneto.

Events - Royal Windsor Horse Show, 12th-16th May 2010 |
 |
 |
Marcia &
Quilate 2009
Purebred Lusitano English Ridden Champion |
Marcia and her clients can be seen in action at the Royal
Windsor Horse show on Sunday 16th May. Marcia will be defending
the Ridden English title, which she has won for the last
two years running and competing in the Parade Class.
Marcia will be riding Soneto this year who has been excelling
at affiliated dressage and who was Herts County Champion
in 2009.
The English Ridden class starts at 10.45am, and the Parade
class is scheduled to take place at 2.30pm.
The Iberian Classes at Windsor are considered to be highly
prestigious and are hotly contested each year by the best
examples of the Lusitano breed. The Parade class is a wonderful
example of the parades at the elite Horse Fairs in Portugual
(the highlight of the day) where every horse is shown off
in traditional costume to the best of its ability and movement,
all under they eye of the local horse experts. As you might
expect this spectacle usually draws a large crowd at Windsor.

| Working
Equitation Clinic at BSR - Report |
 |
 |
| Michelle &
Ruby tackle the jump with the vara (pole) |
The Working Equitation clinic at BSR was a huge success
and very well attended. The clinic opened up Working Equitation
as a new discipline for many of Marcia's clients. All of
whom thoroughly enjoyed getting to grips with the different
demands this places on horse and rider. Everyone enjoyed
tackling the obstacles, riding one handed and jumping with
the pole (vara), something most of them never thought they
would be able to do at the beginning of their session.
Working Equitation is an extremely fun, demanding and relatively
new sport for horse and rider that has its origins in Portuguese
equitation and cattle herding.
Marcia is one of the foremost Working Equitation trainers
in the UK and won a Bronze medal winner as a member of the
British team in Portugal last year. If you are interested
in Marcia running a Working Equitation or Classical Dressage,
or In-Hand clinic at your premises please conrtact Marcia
for further information.

Display at the British Dressage Championships September
2009 |
 |
 |
| Georgina &
Sasa, Marcia & Tostao, Helen & Quebres-Nozes |
The Lusitano Breed society were asked to perform a display
as part of the National Dressage Championships at Stoneleigh
Park in September. There were many top competitors in action
including Carl Hester who took his 6th National Championship
on Liebling II. It was a great honour to perform to such
a crowd and Marcia, Helen Barlow & Georgina Nixon (riding
in her first display) put on a fabulous show demonstrating
the versatility of the Lusitano. Riding a traditional Portuguese
display they rode a wonderful Pas de Trois resplendent in
Portuguese costume and turnout. They were followed by esteemed
trainer and rider Jose Manuel Correia Lopes on Gold Medal
Winner Uivador Da Broa from The Pen Llyn Stud. All The horses
and riders looked and performed beautifully impressing the
large dressage crowds at Stoneleigh.
